Thank You for Modern Technology ...

Today’s investment options are very different from those of previous generations.

Modern technology makes it easier than ever for teens (and adults!) to start investing with just a few clicks.

These apps make it simple to get started growing your money, saving for future goals, and learning about investing — even before you're old enough to open a traditional brokerage account.

Apps today serve different purposes — some focus on beginner education, others on convenience or specific types of investing.  (One thing they all have in common is that they put the power to invest into your hands — easily and independently.)

Below a list of some of the top investment apps, each with its own strengths ...

Remember: while apps give you access to trading, education is the key to making smart decisions.

That's where programs like ours come in — providing students with the knowledge and confidence to invest wisely, not just press buttons!

Common Questions Parents and Teens Ask:

  • Can a 14-year-old invest?
  • How can a 15- or 16-year-old start investing?
  • What investing apps can minors use?
  • How do custodial accounts work?
  • Which apps are best for teens new to investing?
  • If you're asking these questions, you're in the right place!

The good news is — yes, teens can start investing, usually through a custodial account that their parent or guardian helps set up.

And yes, there are beginner-friendly apps that make getting started easier!

A Few Top Investment Apps for Teens

Stash is an ideal investment app for beginners wanting to learn how to make their own smart investments. You’ll find educational content to guide your particular goals.

The app allows you to choose a customized investment portfolio based on what you’ve learned or you can also choose one that is pre-packaged to meet particular values.

Stash also lets you invest automatically at pre-determined intervals or add funds manually. While you won’t find in-depth stock and company research here, it is a good place to get the basics and try your hand at investing.

If you’d prefer to invest without the research and strategy required for choosing your own investments, Acorns may be the app for you.

There is a small fee to invest, just $1 per month for amounts less than $5000 and a 25 percent fee for anything over that amount. Students use the service for free for up to four years.

All users just choose the managed portfolio they wish to invest in, and the choices are then made for you. It’s a convenient and low-cost way to get started investing in your future.

Robinhood is an app that allows you to trade stocks with no fee. It’s true, and that makes it perfect for those who are hesitant to get started with investing. However, there are fees when you withdraw from your account.

You just connect the app to your bank account and load it with the amount you wish to invest. Each trade will be fee-free.

If you wish to invest in margin accounts and to receive extended trading hours, you can opt in to a premium account called Robinhood Gold. The choice is yours.

SCHWAB is a trusted name in the financial arena.

This brokerage lets you download their app for free with no minimum to start making transactions.

Stock trades are free. Options type trades carry fees. You’ll find a range of educational videos to inform your choices, and the app will send you alerts when your trades reach a designated price point.

This is a smart route for those looking for a traditional investment experience combined with today’s technology.

Greenlight started as a debit card and money management app for kids and teens — but now it includes investing features too!

Parents can help their teens open a custodial investment account, set up approvals for trades, and guide them through managing money.

Greenlight offers an easy-to-understand way for teens to learn how to balance spending, saving, and investing — all in one app.

Apps are a Starting Point - But Educations Makes the Difference!

There is no right or wrong answer on which app to choose.  Take some time to check out these investment apps for yourself. When it comes too investing, you have to do what feels right for you.

If you are a newbie and don’t have the knowledge or education to do your own research, you may want to rely on an app to give you tips and guidance.

Investment apps make trading accessible — but access alone isn't enough.

Knowing how to evaluate investments, when to buy or sell, and why a company is a good long-term choice is critical.

That’s why our Wall Street & Investing summer program goes far beyond what apps can teach.

We give students the real-world knowledge, strategies, and confidence to make smart money decisions — not just tap a screen.
Learning to invest wisely is a life skill — not a quick download.

If your teen is serious about investing (or if you want them to learn real skills that can help them throughout life), check out our Summer Program — where education meets opportunity!
